Greek Los Angeles (greeklosangeles.org) is a free directory of Greek churches, restaurants, and businesses in greater Los Angeles. It is an initiative by Thanasi Papoulias of Excuse Me, Are You Greek? This policy explains what information the site collects, why, and what you can ask us to do with it.
The short version: you can browse the whole site without giving us anything. We only receive personal information when you choose to send it through a form, we don’t run ads or tracking, and we never sell your information.
What we collect
When you browse. Like every website, our web host receives standard technical information such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages you visit. It is kept in server logs for security and troubleshooting. We do not use analytics or advertising trackers.
When you submit a listing. The Submit a listing form asks for details about the place (name, address, phone numbers, email, website, social media links, a description, and up to three photos) and for your name and email. The details about the place may be published on the site. Your own name and email are never published. We use them only if we have a question about your submission.
When you contact us. The Contact form asks for your name, your email, and your message, and sends them to us by email so we can reply.
If you use “Near me” or “Find my location.” Your browser will ask for permission first. Your location is used only inside your browser to sort listings or center the map. It is not sent to us or saved.
Information about listed places
Listings show information that churches, restaurants, and businesses share publicly, or that someone submitted for them. That can include a street address, which is also used to place a pin on the map. If you own or run a listed place and want something changed or removed, including a home address, use the Contact page and we will update it promptly.
Services that help run the site
We use a few outside services. Each one receives only what it needs to do its job.
- MapTiler supplies the map images. Your browser loads them directly from MapTiler, which receives your IP address like any website you load content from.
- Cloudflare Turnstile checks that form submissions come from a person and not a spam bot. It looks at basic browser and device signals when you use a form.
- US Census Bureau and OpenStreetMap turn listing addresses into map pins. Only the address of the listed place is sent, never anything about you.
- Our email provider delivers form submissions to our inbox.
- Our backup service stores encrypted copies of the site, including form submissions, so it can be restored if something goes wrong.
Listings link to other websites, such as a business’s own site, Google, Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and X. Those sites have their own privacy policies, and we are not responsible for them.
Cookies
The site does not use cookies to track visitors or show ads. WordPress sets a few cookies only for site administrators who log in. Cloudflare Turnstile may use similar technology on pages with a form, only to tell people and bots apart.
How long we keep things
Submitter names and emails are kept for as long as the listing is on the site, so we can follow up if needed. Contact messages are kept in our email for as long as they are useful. You can ask us to delete either at any time.
Sharing
We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not share it with anyone for their marketing. We would only disclose it if the law required us to.
Your choices and California privacy rights
You can ask us to tell you what personal information we hold about you, correct it, or delete it. California residents have these rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, and we extend them to everyone. We do not sell or share personal information as those laws define it, so there is nothing to opt out of. To make a request, use the Contact page. We will not treat you differently for making one.
Children
The site is meant for a general audience and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect information from children. If you believe a child has sent us personal information, contact us and we will delete it.
Security
The site uses HTTPS, form submissions go through spam checks, and only site administrators can see submitter details. No website can promise perfect security, but we take reasonable care to protect what you send us.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will update it here and change the date at the top.
